Sometimes I want to stop in the middle of a piece, because of the simple effects. Unfortunately because of the nature of this I have to push onward, but I just wanted to share this little piece. /musing

I'm very excited to say that 2 pieces of mine we accepted into the Society of Illustrators Student Competition! I was extremely excited to hear about it and really looking forward to the show in NY. Like with most competitions I had written it off and looked forward to entering the next ones, but this time things seemed to have worked out.

In other news, the above are sketches for an Indypendent article about the trouble down the road that comes with the downturn in mass production economies in Asia.

New Work

Hello, all. Amidst the chaos that is this week, I'm taking some time to put up some new work. The above is the cover of my book project with Powerpop Comics, a graphic adaptation of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Spot for the Indypendent

The above is a finish I just did for an article in the Indypendent about how the Oscar nominations support movies that extract the historical significance of stories and focus on the personal aspects of their main characters.

I approached this one very freely and sort of "shot from the hip" to experiment with some new tricks I've wanted to try out. I'm hazey on the results. Not to say I don't think it's a good and effective image, but whether this methodology is a good fit for me. We'll see how they're integrated into my roster of tricks. Anyway, hope you like it. UPS Montage

I wanted to wait until the all clear before posting about this project, but it was about 2 months ago when this all started. I had the opportunity to work with UPS to provide a piece of art for their main New York office that would also be used as a gift for their upper level executives.

My contact at UPS had asked for a single image to encompass the 11 districts in the Northeast Region as well as some UPS imagery. The sketches he wanted were to range from 11 distinct depictions of the districts, to a more interpretive sketch. After some sketch refinements between me and the client, we settled on the more distinct sketch that had sections specific to the areas they represent as well as a depiction of the UPS process in general.

It was a bit intimidating working for a company like UPS, but also challenging in the image itself. It took a lot of subjects I never really experienced, like automobiles and certain landscapes, that were then tied in together with about a dozen scenes. The time between sketch and finish was a little shorter than I'd like for a complicated image, but in the end both the client and I were happy with it, so really what more can I ask for?

Chapterhouse

The above is a sketch for another piece to be in my gallery show at Chapterhouse here in Philadelphia. The idea originally came up when I was thinking about doing a piece on the economic state of the country, but then reformatted some of the imagery to make it a little less specific.
